For us, internships matter because Sail Lanka is not learned from a textbook. Our work happens in real conditions and real rhythm: schedules, guests, weather, safety, teamwork. The sea forces clarity. Either things are prepared properly, or they are felt immediately on board. That is exactly why this kind of placement is valuable. It is where students start building the reflexes that turn knowledge into professional standards.
Over the coming weeks, these interns will experience both sides of the operation. Onshore, they will see what makes a day run smoothly before anyone steps on board: preparation routines, coordination between teams, and the discipline behind consistency. At sea, they will observe how service, timing and communication come together to deliver a calm guest experience, even when conditions change.
This welcome also sits inside a wider story. Sail Lanka is part of Sea Leisure Yachting Group, an ecosystem that connects boatbuilding, marine operations, and long-term impact. The BAFF Foundation was created with that same mindset: developing people, skills and opportunities so the blue economy can grow on solid ground. Whether talent enters through university internships or through BAFF training pathways, the objective remains consistent: create real routes into the industry, supported by real environments and real teams.
That is why we take these moments seriously. They are about building the future workforce of a sector that Sri Lanka and SLYG is actively shaping. It is a responsibility, and a big source of pride.
To our new interns, welcome on board. We look forward to supporting your journey, onshore and at sea, and to seeing you grow in confidence, discipline and experience within the SLYG ecosystem.
